Sexual Health: Current STI Trends & Facts
By Geographic Region
Global
- World Health Organization (WHO) - Global and Regional STI Estimates - Current estimates and historical trends for the four most common STIs: chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis), gonorrhoea (Neisseria gonorrhoeae), trichomoniasis (Trichomonas vaginalis), and syphilis (Treponema pallidum)
- WHO - Fact Sheet and Key Facts - Easy to understand charts and facts by global region
North America
Canada
The Public Health Agency of Canada publishes national profiles of reportable STIs. Provinces typically have dedicated surveillance dashboards; e.g., Ontario’s “Opioid and STI surveillance” page.
- Public Health Agency of Canada - Report on sexually transmitted infection surveillance, 2019 - Detailed charts and trends of the most common STIs as of data available in 2019... a little outdated! 😬
Mexico
There are regular reports on HIV by the Mexican General Directorate of Epidemiology, but other official national STI statistics are harder to find public information for. At the state level, look for CAPASITS (clinic network) and state bulletins on individual state health sites.
- Mexican General Directorate of Epidemiology - HIV Epidemiological Surveillance System - Downloadable PDF reports on HIV infections within Mexico
USA
Note: Under the current federal administration of the United States in 2025, credibility and reliability of federal data sources is becoming questionable due to large scale purges of expertise and critical funding cuts, as well as the installation of ideological leadership. As a result, these resources are becoming less trustworthy than they have been historically.
- Center for Disease Control (CDC) - STI Surveillance - Highlighted national trends with links to infographics and more detailed national data

Europe
European Union (EU)
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) collects, analyzes, and publishes standardized STI surveillance data for all EU/EEA countries.
- ECDC - Sexually Transmitted Infections - Reports, news, and multimedia with pages dedicated to each STI
- ECDC - Surveillance Atlas of Infections Diseases - An interactive map that displays data by country for just about any infectious disease (not just STIs). However, there are many gaps in available data for major countries like France and Germany, and no data for the UK after its exit from the EU.
United Kingdom
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and Public Health England (PHE) provide annual and quarterly reports, including local authority-level stats.
- Department of Health & Social Care - Fingertips - Sexual and Reproductive Health Profiles - An index of several links to maps, charts and tables for not just STI tracking but a wide range of sexual health statistics.
